Where you are vs Where you thought you'd be

"What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it's supposed to be"

When growing up most of us have an idea in our heads of what our life is going to look like in 10, 15, 20, 30 even 40 or 50 years time. A house with a white picket fence, a partner, a dog, a job you love, maybe some kids running around?

As life continues on it's merry, chaotic way, you often find that things don't work out the way you want, plan or expect. You may have a pretty clear picture in your mind of how you expect or would want you life to be at a certain stage, but it may actually be that the reality of your life might be very very different than the pretty picture. The season of you life you find yourself in might have taken you by complete surprise and leave you in a position you never anticipated. For many of us, if we haven't reached the picture in our head of what we expected for a certain time or stage in our life we see ourselves, our life or our journey as a failure. We can look extremely negatively upon where we are at in our lives and how we came to be there if our daily reality doesn't match up with the picture in our heads of that stage of life.

"You're a failure. You're a waste of space. You can't do anything right."
Are some of the words or phrases that many people think about themselves when they feel like they haven't matched up to their own or other people's expectations. As humans we can often have extremely high standards for ourselves and if we don't reach them, we can be our own worst enemy.

You may not be in the job you want, or live in the city you want, or be as fit and healthy as you thought you might be, or to see your friends as much as you want, or travel as much as you'd dreamed. But my question for you is this, have you worked hard to be where you are right now? Have you tried your hardest and best along the way? Then my response would be, you're doing great! In fact, you're doing amazingly! Sometimes the process and journey are so much more important than the final destination. Having dreams and goals is awesome. But letting them limit your view on your life, thinking that until you've reached them you are a failure, is doing yourself a disservice.

Much to your own dismay sometimes you just have to accept and appreciate the current season of your life, both for it's positives and negatives.  Often, where you are is exactly where you need to be, even if during the worst moments you totally can't understand or see why (I usually can't)
The season or stage of your life you're currently in might not be where you thought, expected or wish you'd be at this age or time. But that doesn't make you a failure, it just means the journey isn't finished.
So screw up that perfect pristine picture, and don't let it limit the possibilities that may arise in current or future parts of your lil' life.
